2012 Ford Fusion IA
For the 2012 model year the SE trim level now comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Little else of significance has changed. A wide range of models includes a standard four-cylinder engine, two upgrade V6s and the Fusion Hybrid. All the Ford Fusion powerplants are competitive in power output and technological features, and all deliver impressive fuel economy. Even the lower-trim Fusion models are smooth and quiet. The Fusion has room for up to five people, and all-wheel drive is optional. In style and stance, the Ford Fusion has a sporting, fun-to-drive spirit not normally associated with workaday, midsize Japanese or American cars. The Fusion, rather, has the cues of a finely conceived European sedan gone global. From the base model to those to loaded with features, the Ford Fusion is comfortable and quiet, with nothing that seems excessively cheap. Measured by interior layout and interaction between driver and machine, it’s one of the best cars in its class. Fusion’s handling and on-road dynamics are exemplary. It’s alert and agile, more so in some respects than the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. At the same time, its ride is smooth and pleasing. Four-wheel disc brakes, made more effective with standard ABS and EBD, provide forceful, easily modulated stopping power. The automatic transmission works very well, with nice, smooth upshifts and quick downshifts at most speeds.
2012 Ford F-250 Des Moines
The 2012 Super Duty is Ford’s line of heavy-duty pickup trucks, which are available in a variety of configurations and three model series: F-250, F-350 and F-450. For 2012 a strengthened frame and trailer hitch provides 17,500 pounds of conventional towing capacity when properly equipped. Ford also offers a CNG/LPG prep package for gas-engine trucks, and a gooseneck hitch is available for the 6.75-foot cargo box. Safety equipment includes electronic stability control, trailer sway control, and hill-descent control, antilock brakes, SOS post-crash alert, dual front airbags, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, adjustable height outboard belt anchors, child-seat LATCH anchors, three rear seat headrests on Crew Cab and a passenger airbag deactivation switch on regular and SuperCabs. The King Ranch is at the top of the lineup and adds two-tone paint including most trim pieces, driver memory package, heated/cooled power front seats, unique forged alloy wheels, rearview camera, and Chaparral-leather for the steering wheel, four captain’s chairs and both center consoles.
Iowa 2012 Ford Escape
The standard four-cylinder engine of the 2012 Ford Escape is adequate for all-purpose driving while the V6 offers quicker acceleration performance. All models are offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. For the most part, the Hybrid drives just like a conventional gas-only Escape. It’s a well-executed package. It offers better fuel economy and lower emissions but demands little additional effort or knowledge from the driver. The Escape’s optional self-parking system handles all the steering required for parallel parking. The driver must still shift the transmission into gear, as well as operate the gas and brake pedals. The Escape has the air of a conventional, truck-based SUV, with a more rugged look than many other small, sedan-platform sport-utilities. The grille of the 2012 Escape looks like it was designed for a truck. The headlights are essentially connected to the grille, and shaped to create a family resemblance with Ford’s Edge crossover SUV. Yet the grille itself is tall and flat and stacked right on top of a skid plate-type fascia that flows under the bumper.
2012 Ford Focus IA
Totally redesigned, the 2012 Ford Focus looks, feels, and smells like the future. It makes its claim as the technology and fuel-mileage leader in the compact car class, a crowded and competitive field full of good cars. All 2012 Focus models use an all-new 2.0-liter engine with direct injection and twin variable valve timing. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, 6-speed automatic optional, with SelectShift manual mode an option to the optional transmission. The engine makes 160 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, an increase over last year’s engine. The Focus is a compact car with the NVH qualities of a full-size car. A lot of productive effort went into making the cabin silent, with sound insulation. Powertrain noise has also been reduced, by attentive engineering of the new engine, transmission, and chassis. Safety equipment in all Focus models includes six airbags with the latest technology, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, and tire pressure monitor.
